Out of curiosity: who all is apping an artist or anyone else involved with the (visual) arts?

EDIT: I ask because briankinney and I were dreaming up ways to recreate the Anne/Gilbert rivalry now that they're adults, and we came up with the following: they are both 'patrons of the arts' - Gilbert in that he is a Wealthy Doctor (tm) and Anne in that she is v. passionate about them and volunteers at an Arts Society Type Deal (ASTD).

NOW. We thought, hey, wouldn't it be fun if a position on the Board of Directors at ASTD opened up, and then they could each compete for the position? Gilbert might be the obvious choice, being a long-time donor, but Anne has all that passion and verve and has put so much time towards the ASTD and she's working towards getting her degree in Art History. Good investment, maybe?

Anyway, we thought it would be cool if this ASTD could serve as a larger backdrop for artisty plots, because WHO DOESN'T LOVE PLOT, amirite? I'm so excited to see so many responses already. :D

oh my goodness.

So I pretty much woke up this morning (at 11! so luxurious!) and logged in, and immediately started crying. it was really dramatic, too, silent tears rolling down cheeks and all that. from an aesthetic point of view, I was quite pleased.

I know, I'm bizarre. But in all seriousness, it is so bittersweet. I mean, yes, I have two narratives and one on-going log to write, so it is not the ultimate final end. And there are yearbooks, and snaps, and memes, and DRABBLES. So I'm happy that Neopolis is going to live on in all of our hearts for such a long time.

and... I don't know. I thought valverde's meatball quote/metaphor was really apt. and I just wanted to add - that yes, all good things must come to an end. I'm really glad that we had a hard closing date, because, well... yeah, if it went on and on, it would have ceased to become special. Like camp - you want it to go on forever, but it must end, because life must go on. There are other games! They are going to be awesome, and deserve the full attention of their players. Neopolis was a beautiful disaster in that regard - I don't know how a lot of you managed to play five characters and five more at other games when I could hardly manage three at one.

Although I wrote my good-bye post while drunk, I don't think it's too cringeworthy... although I have no idea wtf a 'mutual rhombus friendship' is. I recall Ryan rebelling against too much sentimentality when FT closed; I guess I took that role this time, eschewing sober sentiment in favor of inebriated ridiculousness. those glasses of wine helped me through, trust. Sorry to everyone I was ridiculous to!! but I do love everything and everyone about Neopolis, really truly.

I do feel like maybe I should go back and rewrite the 20YL (or just write, in Patience's case), but keeping it vague and open-ended-ish is kind of how I'd like it to really be. Part of the beauty of RP is that collaborative element, and the organic way things evolve. It felt a little weird to take over the reins completely and say 'AND NOW THIS HAPPENS'. but I'm pleased with everything - Jackie is appropriately tragic, Patience gets her happy ending with adventure aplenty in store for her and her children, and I managed to find a way for Wendelin to have character growth... even though for her it only started in earnest at the END of the game. Whatever, she's still a baby in fairy terms, it's fine.

Like I said, I still have two narratives -- Jackie/Jack Frost reunion (STILL, hahahaha), and a retrospective of Jackie's year and her relationships. I'll probably hit up you guys at various points to okay things with you for that... it's going to be massive. I also fully plan on doing a full CDJ retrospective on how I've played Jackie over the past year... how she's changed from her original app, and that kind of thing.

I may do the same in smaller scale for Patience, but Julie & I have plans of our own for Renbridge. those plans, though, I think will largely involve a sort of reboot -- Renbridge sans Neopolis, exploring their home dimension, since it's so rich and awesome and we didn't get to do nearly enough with it. When thinking about this in the past few weeks, I was kind of heartbroken to think about their story without Neopolis in it, but now that's it all over, I'm glad that any writing we do will be alternate!Renbridge, because I feel like their story as encapsulated by the game has been told, and put to rest. I'm happy with it, and it would be weird to write the same Patience after the game's close. (Although I am glad that we did get to incorporate a LITTLE bit of our personal canon re: "Haylock Combs" making an appearance, and the blood feud. xD)

I should probably buckle down and start on those narratives in earnest, but right now I kind of just want to go back to sleep. It's been a fantastic run. Thank you all. ♥

In the style of those old cracky Marvel comics, pose a hypothetical question about one of my characters (What if Heather grew up in Neopolis? What if Drake and Duke had each other's powers?) and I will babble on about what that would have been like/possibly write a little drabble for it if the urge strikes me.

Planning on getting my yearbooks up when I get home (P.S. GO GIVE ME SUPERLATIVES). Then tagging logs. Then writing in other yearbooks. Then thinking about 20 Years Later. Oh man.

Reading Anne of Green Gables and thinking about that character, but not doing any sort of hard apping until Neo is closed.

so, like, it occurred to me the other day - I somehow end up playing these weird loners/outsiders all the time.

Exhibit A: Patience. Obvs, she doesn't quite fit into Neopolis because haha! she's from the 19th century. But she didn't really fit in there, either - not with 'normal' society (too much of a scientist), not with her scientist buddies (too much of a girly girl, and later, too many secrets). I think she's very sociable by nature, but there's always some disconnect that keeps her from having very close friends. But I think it's much better in Neopolis - and going to get better - than it was in 1880. Maybe not so much with her faculty, which is the only adult interaction I had in-game, because, yeah, they're her employees, but in general!

Exhibit B: Wendelin. No explanation really necessary, she's a malicious creeper that hates humans. She has friends, but definitely not a friend circle. It's fine, that's how she rolls.

Exhibit C: Jackie. If her father were not Inner Circle, she wouldn't be. She grew up with all the high-status League kids, but I think on a level she was always apart from them because her family name is really new, and there's no history, and her status is entirely dependable on her crazy-ass dad. I mean, I'm not going to pretend that this sort of disconnect that exists between her and the rest of Leaguers isn't because I dropped the ball and didn't backplot with everyone to the extent that everyone else did. But the fierce, understated loyalty that defines the League kids also just... isn't part of her M.O. Jackie comes first, always. And even when she's having silly funtimes with friends, she's always very aloof from it all. idk. Doubtlessly she was closer to everyone before the Johnny stuff - that just furthered the gap between her and everyone else. Ugh, whatever, she makes me sad, I'm stopping now.

Exhibit D: Velvet. This needs no explanation; if she could, Vel would be a total hermit, just her and her books and an endless supply of tea. But really, she's just introverted, which doesn't so much make her a loner/outsider as it makes her someone who doesn't do 'social' a whole lot. But still.

Exhibit E: Kelly. Obviously, broken, alcoholic, self-destructive women do not really fit into the category of 'well-adjusted members of society'.

Exhibit F: Cordelia. ICly, she does not at all fit the loner/outsider label - she's very gregarious, gabby, loooves hanging out with friends. BUT, in-game, she was stuck in Syracuse while all the rest of the Tales were in NYC. So, still - apart from it all.

I think maybe Lillian is the only one who doesn't fit this at all, except even she didn't really have the super-tight friend groups and connections. Everything was very surface-level with her, and in her original incarnation at Grimm, she was traveling all over the country all the time. So!

Basically I am saying that I fail at playing out tight-knit friend groups like the Banders or the Leaguers or any of the myriad -packs and -landias that there have been over the past few years. Boo.

oh, man. plot is crazygonuts. I keep feeling like it's the middle of the month, but no, it's been barely over a week.

I need to take lessons in short plot updates. Not even that much HAPPENS in my updates, and yet they're like a goddamn novel. I finished yesterday's update today, except for teachers because we as a modgroup need to hash stuff out. WHERE IS EVERYONE GEEZ.

but it is all so worth it! I am seriously going to be heartbroken when the game ends. On the one hand, it'll be a relief, because it is soooo time-consuming, but on the other... I am going to miss all the playes and their characters SO FUCKING MUCH.

let's see, let's see. how are my kiddos coping with the neopocalypse.

PATIENCE: is in Caesar's harem, in a ridiculous gold costume. sadly, no henchmen are giving her flowers or chocolate; only jeers and sneers for her, because who doesn't want to make fun of the lady from the 19th century showing a whole lot more than some ankle. Even though she's been naked in front of Renfield now, and pretty darn indecent before that during zombiepocalypse (not to mention the countless costumes she's had to adorn during their travels), she hates it, ALL THE TIME. she feels exposed, out of her element, in unfamiliar territory and she doesn't cope well with that. there's a reason Renfield is the explorer, and she is the brains. sure, she can hold her own adventuring, but she will always be very flustered when it comes to modesty and attention from the male gaze.

anyway, she will be very concerned about the guys who end up fighting for her (and the other teachers') honor. and she is worried sick about the students, and feeling utterly helpless and hopeless and just generally in a bad way. she is going to feign a twisted ankle pretty early into the song and dance.

but there are good things! like this! it is going to be very exciting to finally bring that to fruition. I imagine that she's spent quite a lot of time with Renfield, when she could.

WENDELIN: is so incredibly happy in Faerie, you have no idea. she's sticking around because, well... she knows no one, and she isn't SO stupid that she's going to go off, a totally nobody from a forgotten family that has long since been banished. her "plan" is to make herself notable first -- either through trapping her teammates, or earning distinction with Dead Bowie's request. (also, loose enchantments in place to influence her opinion towards 'sticking around') also Emily's opinion is still very important to her, so that helps -- even though she is mostly just an unhelpful pain in the ass, as per usual. just one with a lot more POWER. she's enjoying herself, but surprisingly DOES miss Elwood and Clementine -- Kati we should do more Queenie/Wendy! uhmmm even though she thought she should get something in return for it, she did end up helping (well, mostly) the spygroup, because it was some serious fucking magic and that was pretty intoxicating.

when she returns to Neopolis, she is going to be beyond devastated -- worse than powerswap, even. it will be a real turning point for her when she gets through that, so I'm excited. whooo alvin/wendelin times :D

JACKIE: HAHAHAH SNOWPACK IS SO AMAZING. After being VERY shut-off and aloof and ice-queen-y after the zombie attack, Jackie has sort of... well, I think this last trimester has mostly been about deciding to be a stone cold ambitious bitch, and then putting it aside. she bagged her internship at city hall for when she graduates, and so her last trimester was mostly about having fun. the stuff with toni, marla and dani best illustrates that, and the igloo shenanigans solidify. it's kind of her last hurrah, I guess, before she TAKES OVER THE WOOOORLD. she was still distant? I mean, she had fun, but no real meaningful bonding with anyone -- and I think that remains true in Snowpack. lots of lulz, no real 'oh man you guys are the best' moments. :/

she hated her gladiator challenge so much. she HATED that her weaknesses were displayed on the PDAs for everyone to see. she hated that it was Dani. she hated that Amy Andreatta nearly beat her. she hated that Dani managed to get herself hurt even though she basically killed herself trying to save her. I mean, she's proud of her for fighting, but she is still unhappy about it.

I think, back in Snowpack, she is having a mini version of her post-zombie shutting-out-ness. it's not NEARLY as extreme, but she is very much 'ugh, let's fucking get this over with' now, much more so than before. srs bsnss jackie, you can has. she's also pretty fucking sore, and not happy about it. blisters all over. I figure Reggie can only alleviate it so much.

1. My username is ______ because ______: skycornerless; it's my username on LJ, which I chose because of an e.e. cummings poem. I chose it for a few reasons - 1) I was going through a cummings phase, but didn't want to be super pretentious and choose something from a less well-known poem, 2) I wanted it to be thematically related to my former username, which was windchild. Whatever, I still like it.

2. My name is _____ because ______: "ee to the em to the eye-ell-why"; it is how you spell my name, if you are, idk, MC Hammer or something.

3. My journal is titled ____ because ____: "can I go nowhere with you?"; it's the refrain (title?) of a song on a mix CD that Ryan sent me (full of Canadian artists!), and I think it was stuck in my head when I was trying to think up a title.

JCHRI.

so, I know that I have been basically a dead woman when it comes to RP, and I am sorry! It's just been constant busybusybusy for me, even on days when I don't do anything but go to work -- usually I'm pooped and just want to veg out with some TV on the Internet and shut my brain off. Or, y'know, read. Novel though it may be. (lololol)

luckily, I don't plan on staying at my internship past Christmas, so I should be around for at least the last month. and I will definitely be around for plot this weekend, as much as I can!!

to that end, here is what I have going on:

JACKIE is getting SIMON's schtick. She will wake up with Phantom Typewriter/Grandpa in her room. It will be awks. (Willa is getting Jackie's powers, I am p. afraid for everyone.)

WENDELIN will have HUCK's stuff. Uhhh. I guess she will be awesome at kicking ass. Possibly will also refer to herself with a number. Nat! Maybe do something with Jessi, if she'll have Ludwig's telepathy? idk! mostly she will be throwing a major fit, because she was trying to curse the whole school as a Halloween prank (Kati, idk if you got my IM, but Queenie would probably have noticed her big-ass tapestry with tons of students' likenesses on it! with, y'know, bad things happening to them.), and then she ended up magicless? FHL. (Nora, incidentally, gets Wendelin's magic. I am looking forward to this.)

PATIENCE will have Heather's flame-on!!! SHE IS GOING TO CATCH FIRE. And then the newly Atlantean-Renfield will come to the rescue. Charlotte gets her clockwork queenieness. uh. that's p. much it.

AS FOR OTHER PLOT.

I am sorry I came around all, 'LOL LET'S DO SOME AWESOME BATTLEPLANS PLOT' and then disappeared. I totally do want to do this! Life is going to be p. crazy until... the 9th? when Julie leaves. I think I'll have time to plan something concrete then. :D

Definitely need to get some Wendy stuff going on various fronts: a) toby b) elwood c) the play. also more queenie stuff!

Jackie... ugh, I swear I will get her going again soon, too. Jessi, Queenie & Annie?, Battleplans... what's going on with ELE kids? SHE WILL BE AT BEA'S PARTY, i just probably won't be around to make note of it. D:

Patience has logs that I need to tag and also she should have some bonding time with Tibby. Tibby + Patience + Robbie's ship???

Also I think I need to get up stupid early more often, I get a lot done.

Okay, so true to my vow in Nat's post, I am going to get plot, goddamn it.

SO. After chatting with Angela (because who doesn't want Robbie plot, amirite), I thought it might be fun to dream up some kind of Formulating Battleplans class plot. I mean, it's too easy - divide the class up, MAKE WAR.

Or just play some really convoluted game of Neopolis Risk.
