JCHRI.

so, I know that I have been basically a dead woman when it comes to RP, and I am sorry! It's just been constant busybusybusy for me, even on days when I don't do anything but go to work -- usually I'm pooped and just want to veg out with some TV on the Internet and shut my brain off. Or, y'know, read. Novel though it may be. (lololol)

luckily, I don't plan on staying at my internship past Christmas, so I should be around for at least the last month. and I will definitely be around for plot this weekend, as much as I can!!

to that end, here is what I have going on:

JACKIE is getting SIMON's schtick. She will wake up with Phantom Typewriter/Grandpa in her room. It will be awks. (Willa is getting Jackie's powers, I am p. afraid for everyone.)

WENDELIN will have HUCK's stuff. Uhhh. I guess she will be awesome at kicking ass. Possibly will also refer to herself with a number. Nat! Maybe do something with Jessi, if she'll have Ludwig's telepathy? idk! mostly she will be throwing a major fit, because she was trying to curse the whole school as a Halloween prank (Kati, idk if you got my IM, but Queenie would probably have noticed her big-ass tapestry with tons of students' likenesses on it! with, y'know, bad things happening to them.), and then she ended up magicless? FHL. (Nora, incidentally, gets Wendelin's magic. I am looking forward to this.)

PATIENCE will have Heather's flame-on!!! SHE IS GOING TO CATCH FIRE. And then the newly Atlantean-Renfield will come to the rescue. Charlotte gets her clockwork queenieness. uh. that's p. much it.

AS FOR OTHER PLOT.

I am sorry I came around all, 'LOL LET'S DO SOME AWESOME BATTLEPLANS PLOT' and then disappeared. I totally do want to do this! Life is going to be p. crazy until... the 9th? when Julie leaves. I think I'll have time to plan something concrete then. :D

Definitely need to get some Wendy stuff going on various fronts: a) toby b) elwood c) the play. also more queenie stuff!

Jackie... ugh, I swear I will get her going again soon, too. Jessi, Queenie & Annie?, Battleplans... what's going on with ELE kids? SHE WILL BE AT BEA'S PARTY, i just probably won't be around to make note of it. D:

Patience has logs that I need to tag and also she should have some bonding time with Tibby. Tibby + Patience + Robbie's ship???

Also I think I need to get up stupid early more often, I get a lot done.

Okay, so true to my vow in Nat's post, I am going to get plot, goddamn it.

SO. After chatting with Angela (because who doesn't want Robbie plot, amirite), I thought it might be fun to dream up some kind of Formulating Battleplans class plot. I mean, it's too easy - divide the class up, MAKE WAR.

Or just play some really convoluted game of Neopolis Risk.

Whatever.

So, people with characters in that class, would you be up for this? Any ideas? Let me know!

I probably won't commit to RPWriMo, since, lol, November is going to suck for me, but I want to get my RP engines back up and running, since they've sort of... stalled out. so yeah! :D any plot, appreciated. I really would like to do more Jackie being sneakypants, so if you still wanna do stuff with Jessi, Nat, that would be awesome. And maybe some competition for City Hall internships or something? Kati, would Queenie do that?

oh hey before I forget

We all acknowledge that aspects of our real life shape and influence the characters we write, but have your characters ever influenced your real life?

I'm not sure that I can think of any recent examples, but for sure I've done things because I was playing a certain character before.

For example:

- snowboarding (thx, X-Men OC named Sue. I COULD NOT MOVE THE NEXT DAY)
- wearing bright colors (playing Sue, sunshiney Hawaiian surfer girl, p. much put an end to my bb goth phase)
- writing poetry (short-lived, attributed to the first incarnation of Velvet)
- getting really into a game of hockey (courtesy hot-headed Siryn)

Of course, this was also back when I was unhealthily addicted to RP. These days, idk. Sometimes I'll think about getting into Lil's super-self-confident headspace to try and get through something that's making me anxious, but I rarely go through with it. That's about the closest I come anymore.

How about you guys?

OH, P.S. some PB questions --

So as follow-up to my tl;dr on missing FT, I've come to resolution of sorts.

There's no reason I can't explore the fairy tale stuff with my own, separate writing. As for missing the characters, well. After reading Ryan's post about dropping characters, and generally avoiding it so that individual voices were always available to him, I decided that maybe recycling them wouldn't be such a bad thing. I miss writing Vel's voice, and Lil's, so to that end, I am looking forward to scouting out a game where I can use their voices again.

I'm feeling super optimistic about RP, now that I've figured that out and that we've come to a decision about Neopolis. It's sad that it's coming to an end, but it will be SO EPIC. And it has been so epic, so y'know, I can only look forward to it. ♥

Ugh, I miss FT so much it hurts. Sometimes.

I know that whining about missing FT and making half-serious jokes about someday rebooting it are not productive at all, though. Because, well, it's never going to happen. Interests have scattered, there are other people doing reincarnation games, and I doubt we'll ever have collective interest as a mod team to revisit it.

And yet, and yet.

So, I'm going to try and work out what it is, exactly, that I miss so much. So that maybe I can figure out a way to stop missing it, and stop wanting to revamp it.

Is it just nostalgia? Rose-colored glasses?

That's probably a part of it, but for the most part, I don't think so. Because when I allow myself to imagine a reboot, I still get excited, even knowing that most of the characters would not come back. I mean, sure, I get that twinge of 'what if'-ness, thinking about storylines that I never got to play out, but I've put most of the FT canon to bed, in its box, where it will forever be fondly remembered.

Is it the premise?

This is a large part, to be sure. I love fractured fairy tales, I love thinking about the ways in which I could make a fairy tale game unique. I don't have any interest in expanding the 'reincarnation' bit beyond fairy tales, because that goes into canonized territory, and I just don't tread there.

Is it the characters?

Like I said before, I've put most of FT's cast to bed. But I really, really miss my own characters. I miss Velvet, I miss Lillian. I wish I'd done more with Kelly, and that I'd actually apped Donovan. I miss the interactions that came with such a varied cast - all ages, all different backgrounds, all walks of life. The fact that they were all normal, with a single secret that tied them all together.

I guess that's it, really. But it seems too simple, because there are other games out there! Like that! aren't there? but they don't hold the same appeal.

Don't get me wrong, I lovelovelove Neopolis, but there's really no comparing -- they're two completely different beasts. Neopolis is fantastic because there's so much plot, and it's so easily generated within the structure we've set up. Everyone's stuck together, there's crazy super powers and whatnot, it's great.

Maybe what I need to do is just write a crap-ton of drabbles for my FT kids and maybe find myself some closure that way. Or write some sort of short story, or novel, or academic paper about fairy tales. Maybe that will scratch the itch.

anyway. what do you FT vets think? do you miss it? what was it that made it special? have you found similar dynamics in other games? I am curious!

What type of character archetypes would you like to eventually play?

Oh my god, my roster is so small that I have, like, five hundred million people I want to play but no time to actually do it.

Nice, friendly, outgoing - basically, my Sue/Lil archetype. I miss playing that, and my roster is sort of super unbalanced right now. I have no hardcore Bander! Patience doesn't count, she's more about Science and Doing the Right Thing only vaguely factors into things.

Drama queen - Wendelin sort of fills this, but not really because she is insane. I'm thinking more about my Maeve-type character, very self-centered, make mountains out of molehills, attention whore, that kind of thing. It's so fun to play!

A dude - Any sort of dude. Because I've only ever played one. (Foppish newspaper reporter in a short-lived MU* doesn't count. Even if he was "PBed" by Josh Groban.)

Anyone older than thirty - Because I fail so hardcore at making older people. I make no claims to be a high-concept RPer, this is totally fun escapism times, but still, really, I should grow.

Someone in a committed relationship - Hahahahahah I have done this never.

Somebody that's super needy - It's an unpleasant sort of thing, but I think it could be interesting to play out? Like, I've done low self-esteem, people who were insecure in one way or another, but someone who really leeches on people, that could be an interesting dynamic. Certainly one that'd be very rewarding in terms of character growth - it's easy to see where they are, where they need to be, and connect the dots.

Ohhhhhhh, my goodness.

First off, you all are completely, utterly amazing. Thank you so much for loving Neopolis and making it such an awesome, rewarding game.

Like I said earlier, I had such an amazing time playing Zombie!Jackie, and so much thanks to herozero for giving me my epic fight. Sorry about the frostbite, Xandros. ;)

And this Renbridge log is pretty great. I feel like I'm writing a harlequin, with indecently clinging fabric. Except, you know, they're basically on a goddamn battlefield with zombies and Gundam explosions and ALL THAT GOOD STUFF. Unresolved romantic tension, you can has.

Wendelin spent most of her time as a cat, stalking Elwood. I had too much going on elsewhere to really be concerned about her, although she pretty much loved every minute of the chaos and death and doom. She wants to learn how to control legions of undead, so she'll be signing up for that next term, as well as bothering the hell out of her roommate.

oh my god, playing Dark!Jackie has been SO MUCH FUN. Normally she's not a big journal-commenter, because she's so frickin' aloof and above it all. But now? All-out. Or at least, as all-out as I can muster, which isn't much compared to some of you, because LOL I GET VERY LITTLE PRACTICE WITH MY RETICENT CHARACTERS.

Anyway, I particularly enjoy how she's been such a total homewrecker, goading Marcus and Ellie into saying horrible things about their BFFs.

And I am very much looking forward to Jackie trying to kill Johnny on Sunday morning - if that goes down, I'm not sure. I talked to Ryan briefly about it before he went off to have a social life or whatever lame thing. The set-up is there, at any rate. If it DOES go down, there should totally be spectators. And/or possibly someone to, uh, stop them. but I have to discuss it with Ryan.

UGGGH I DON'T WANT TO GO TO WORK. i just wanna stay home and play :( not... that anyone else is really around right now to play WITH, but.

the other thing is, with Dark!Jackie is that for most of it she's not really... any more evil than she actually is. She's just saying shit she's already thinking, uninhibited. More malicious, maybe, and indulgent of petty bitchiness. Her comment to Cole is really telling in that regard. I mean, obviously. Normal!Jackie does not go around killing people, like she's about to start (trying) to do, but Normal!Jackie probs wouldn't feel much remorse if Rob ended up dead. :/ (To clarify, Normal!Jackie doesn't WANT Rob dead, she just wouldn't care all that much if he happened to die.)

Anyway, yeah, Dark!Jackie is less about the bitchiness and more about going a little crazy like her pops. I can't wait. but in the meantime, oh man, the bitchiness is so much fun.

EDIT: Sarah suggested that maybe Billy could be hunting Jackie and Johnny? Since they'll have clearly progressed to murderous levels. And Cole and Austin would be teaming up to try and stop him? LOU, WHAT THINKEST THOU?
